From Basics to Brilliant
Learning your way around your kitchen begins with getting familiar with its layout and design. Organization is important. Being aware of where your tools are located and having the right tools to do the work.
By the end of class, you will learn:
Basic knife skills
Tools of the trade
Sanitation of work surfaces and storage
Repeatable recipes you can use right away
Class Description

Knives: Learn about the different types of knives, the materials they are made of, and which type of knife to use based on what is being prepared.

Knife Skills: It begins with learning to julienne, dicing (many sizes), to deboning. We'll start slow and work through the basics of using knives for dicing, chopping, and more.

Basic Tools: Measuring spoons, cups (dry and liquid), scrapers, spatulas, cutting boards, oh my! The list may seem long, but all the items are important for a successful meal.

Pots & Pans: Not all are alike; some work better on different cooking surfaces. We'll discuss what will work well in your space and identify the minimum required for your beginner needs.

Simple Saute: Using what was diced and chopped, we'll do a simple saute, one that can be modified easily and repeated with different vegetables and proteins.

Clean Up: Using the mantra "clean as you go," we'll cover sanitary cleaning of your area and kitchen, as well as a clean refrigerator and safe food storage.
Class can range from 2 - 4 hours as designed; done in your kitchen; all supplies will be brought to you.
